The Fourth of July is just around the corner, and I'm sure you're gearing up for some BBQs. If you're watching your saturated fat and cholesterol intake, veggie burgers are a great option. And according to my burger poll many of you prefer veggie burgers, too. There are so many different brands and flavors out there now, the selection can be a little overwhelming. Some burgers are made with soy and others with grains. Other veggie burgers are just that and made from veggies. Sunshine even makes their burgers with sunflower seeds. Depending on the main ingredients, all your options will differ in calories, sodium, carbs, and protein, so check out this breakdown to see which one satisfies your needs.

when i first became a vegetarian, i was a bit scared of veggie burgers cause you really don't know what you're going to get, but to be honest, i've been pleasantly surprised. i've always enjoyed the ones that i've bought at the store. I've always tried Gardenburger or Boca Burger.
i've ordered veggie burgers at restaurants a few times, and it's hit or miss. sometimes they do really bad jobs - and you end up with something that's mush in the middle because they haven't cooked it through.

2I love love love the Morningstar Farms spicy black bean burger! Topped with salsa and guacamole...so good.
3My favorite is Boca All American Flame Grilled, but I had no idea there were so many alternatives. I guess I'll have to try a few of the others! Here in Ohio we have a restaurant called Northstar Cafe that has a veggie burger--the absolute BEST I have ever tasted. It's made with black beans, brown rice, and roasted beets, and it's enormous and delicious.
4I have to agree with Kate Marie. The Northstar Cafe veggie burger is hands down the best veggie burger on Earth! Mmm. I love how it's pink inside because of the beets. Here is a picture of one I ate there last year:
For ones you can buy at the store, though, I do love the Morning Star Farm's Mushroom Lover's. YUM.
5I love Amy's Kitchen All American Veggie Burger and Amy's Kitchen California Veggie Burger. They are worth the carbs and sodium intake.

6My favorite is definitely the moringstar farms veggie medley. I love to put pickles, ketchup & mustard on it!
7I don't really like the boca burgers, I don't like when they try to make them taste like meat.
I've been sticking with gardenburger veggie medly, which I really like. I also like that its only 90 cals.
I really, really dislike the gardenburger tomato-basil, which is a huge disappointment to me b/c tomatoes are pretty much my fav food.
Dr. Praegers are just ok.
I should try that mushroom lover one, b/c I do love mushrooms!

9morningstar tomato mozzarella and morninstar masala flavor. in my opinion, the less a veggie burger tries to taste like a real burger, the better!
10Morningstar has been my favorite brand for veggie/soy based fake chicken and beef products for years. They really never let me down. Good eats.
11I make my own- this is seriously the best recipe ever:
1 egg
1 cup cooked brown rice
1 small onion
1 can black beans
mash the black beans with a fork
lightly beat the egg
dice the small onion
mix cooked rice, onion, beans, and egg
cook 1/2 cup of mix on a skillet for about five minutes on each side
eat on a hamburger roll- they are great with salsa and some sour cream, or just with cheese yummmmmmmmm
12* recipe makes about six burgers, they freeze well

i wish it included beef, chicken, turkey, bison, or whatever else you can make a patty with to compare further on nutrition, but if no meat is your thing, then this is pretty much it.. oh can't forget a portabella burger!

this is the BEST veggie burger! it does take effort but it is really worth it... it is a copycat for the veggie burger at Houston's which is so good. sometimes you have to weary of some veggie burgers because they can be loaded with hidden fat..one of those chain rest. has a veggie burger with 40 g of fat!

21I LOVE Morningstar Black Bean burger, as well as their Tomato Basil. I purchased the Asian Veggie last night, and I am pretty excited about trying it!

22Boca All American Flame Grilled is our family favorite, but we like a Morningstar's chicken patties and mini corn dogs (kids LOVE those).

25I like Boca burgers because I can serve them to my meat eating family and they don't complain at all. That's quite a feat. I brush them with olive oil of course. The olive oil substitutes for the grease in flavor and texture.
26I'm a vegetarian and by far my favorite is Morningstar Black Bean Burger, it is so good! Other good meatless products are Boca Chik'n and Tofurkey.

33Morningstar Farms Spicy Black Bean Veggie are my favorite. Great idea about making them. They do tend to add up quickly cost-wise.
