Weight/body issues and Hollywood unfortunately seem to go hand in hand. I heard that two time Oscar winning actor Emma Thompson threw some of her star weight around (pun intended) with producers at Miramax, where she is working on an upcoming version of Brideshead Revisited. It seems that Miramax was demanding her costar, Hayley Atwell, drop a few pounds. It happens all the time; a studio asks an already fit actress to slim down for a role, but Emma provided a little reality check to the situation and took matters into her own hands.
Hayley explained the situation to the First Post like this:
I went round to Emma's one night and she was getting very angry that I wasn't eating all the food she was giving me. I told her why and she hit the roof.
The next day, Emma called the producers and threatened to quit her role if they forced Haley to lose weight. The studio quickly relented. Look for the two actresses in the upcoming film version of Brideshead Revisited. As an Anglophile, I can't wait.

I understand that in Hollywood a size six is considered 'overweight'. That's just insane. Real beautiful women have real beautiful curves. Bravo, Emma Thompson!

2i think thatit's great that she's tanding up for what she believes in. it's really interesting to see how in the US it's all about how you look - being tiny and beautiful but you see that actresses (successful ones) in the UK etc aren't the same way. i hope that this is just the start of things to come since it makes you feel bad about yourself when your'e not a 00

4I think she did something similar like that with Kate Winslet when they were filming "Sense and Sensibility" together. I think it's very heroic and wonderful that an actress of her caliber and stature has the moxie to do that.

18Emma Thompson has ALWAYS rocked! Thank goodness she stood up and put her foot in someone's rear over this - Hayley is not large and unless she's playing someone who's anorexic why would she need to be a 'LolliPop Girl'.

25That's so awesome to hear! I definitely think it's ridiculous how much pressure some of these celebs have on them to lose weight when they are obviously very NORMAL looking people. Hayley looks fantastic. If she did lose weight, she'd look like one of those wannabe "it girls" that has a stick figure body and a bobble-head.
26Not only is it awesome that Emma managed to "save" her co-star from eventually ending down at the anorexic road, she also cooked for her? Real food? Awesome!!
