Although I'm not a full-fledged vegetarian, I do like to eat black-bean burgers, soy milk, and tempeh every once in a while because I like that they are cholesterol free. I never really go for meat alternatives that strive to look, taste, and feel like meat though, but since a good friend recommended Morningstar Farms Chik Patties, I reluctantly agreed to give them a try.

To see what I thought, just read more.

I've got to be honest. I wasn't expecting to like these one bit, but these vegetarian chik patties (made of a mix of soy and wheat gluten), were surprisingly good. I loved that the breaded outer layer was really crunchy and the inside was chewy and kind of shredded to make it look like real chicken (nice touch). The Italian herb seasonings were very flavorful and the overall texture was very much like a real chicken patty. As I was eating this as a sandwich, I was thinking about how good it would be in a chicken parm recipe.
Truthfully speaking, although I liked the way these tasted and the fact that each small patty contains 10g of protein, I probably wouldn't buy these again. Why? On the list of ingredients, it says "natural and artificial flavors from nonmeat sources." Um, gross. It also contains corn syrup and caramel color, which really surprised me. I guess it's a good reminder that you can't judge a food by its box — just because it's vegetarian doesn't mean it's healthy.

I haven't tried the Italian herb ones, but I like the plain chik patties alot! These don't play a huge role in my diet though; I think of them more like my version of healthy fast food when I want something quick and easy.
1i eat morning stars breakfast sausage. i have not checked the ingredients but its not greasy sausage so i feel much better eating it every morning.
2i've tried the chik nuggets and liked them alot
3That's a lot of sodium for one patty!
4i also am not a veg, but do tend to eat some veggie stuff occasionally to mimic the "real" (ie. full fat) versions. the sodium keeps me from eating it too much, though.
but they are quick & easy to prep.
some things i do: on a bun like a regular chicken patty, cut up & tossed in salads or wraps as a pseudo- chicken ceasar or ranch wrap/salad. i also do the same with the faux buffalo wings; i don't eat those on their own, but sometimes cut up in salads or wraps. they have a bit more kick/heat, which is nice for a change.
5No thanks
6I'm all about the Quorn fake ckicken stuff. It's mad with micoprotein (mushrooms) is seriously delish & doesn't have all the crap that a lot of fake meat products have. Yum.
7I've never seen the Italian Herb, but I like the Ranch Parmesean ones. I put them in the microwave for 15 seconds on each side, then put them in my toaster oven on toast. It gets them done quickly and keeps the outside breading from getting soggy.
8I loved these before I became vegan!
9I love eating these patties with a little marinara and a sprinkle of mozzerella on top! yum!
10I love the original flavor and eat one with veggies and potatoes every once in awhile.
11love these! also the morningstar buffalo wings are a great addition to salads for extra protein.
12I love these!
13I love these and they make a super chik parm
14I used to eat these a lot, but got sick of them. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the morningstar corn dogs. Fitsugar, you gotta try them! They taste just like corn dogs, and only have 150 calories each. I can't remember the fat content, but I think its around 3 g. So worth it!
15The Ranch Parmesan ones are great!
16My old roommate got me hooked on the MorningStar stuff when she went veg. Like others have said, the ranch parmesan ones are yum!
17i'm a vegetarian, and i love the morningstar breaded spinach and artichoke, but i don't have it very often. i love these too, though. and 150 calories is nothing compared to the calories other fried chickens would have. overall, if you don't eat them every night, and just every once in a while, it can kick those occasional meat cravings.
18Never had these...
19I don't usually buy many processed foods, so I've never tried these, but it seems like a bit of overreacting to not buy them because of "natural flavors from nonmeat sources". They're only saying that because legally they have to disclose if they use ANY meat products at all, because then they wouldn't be vegetarian.
20Never had them. I like their veggie burgers though.
21That's a bummer is has corn syrup and caramel color. But you're right, just because something is veg doesn't mean it's all healthy.
22I've never tried these and probably won't.
I'm a little surprised you didn't mention
the amount of sodium! Wow!
23I tried these on the recommendation of a friend and I was pleasantly surprised! I had decided to start eating vegetarian but every now and then I would really want some chicken - like a chicken caesar salad, or chicken stir fry or something! These are amazing if you really want to do the vegetarian thing but just are not sure if you could handle giving up chicken to do so. I've come to love Morning Star in general - all of their products are now my guilty pleasures instead of ice cream, chips, or a hamburger!
24love these!
25I love the regular Chick Patties. I used to eat Bocca Chick'n patties however they changed the formula and now it's very oily tasting. Bocca had better ingredients however I had to go to Morningstar and I eat them like 5x's a week; ingredients aren't the best however I still like it.
26^ I meant "Chik" patties not chick.
27I love the Parmesan Ranch flavor, but they are getting increasingly harder to find here. I used to put them in a whole grain wrap with baby spinach, hummus, black olives, pepperoncinnis, and feta cheese. Delicious!
28P.S. People are healthy, food is healthful.
29never seen the italian herb..... but the Parmesan Ranch ones are delicious..... I'm not even a vegetarian..... I just think they taste really good.....
30i used to love these, and then discovered that the soy was causing my hormones to fluctuate. hello, cystic adult acne!
31I agree that these are good on salads. I also like spicy black bean burgers on salads!
32Wow. I never thought to look at the "actual" ingredients (as crazy as that sounds for a veggie girl). I will take a look. I certainly don't want caramel coloring in my food! I can't take out every thing that's bad but I can make better choices. Thanks for letting us know.
33yum i still love them..the burgers are great also..
34If you like these, you need to google "how to make meatless chicken patties" , there is a recipe out there to make these minus all the sodium and weird stuff.
