You're asking and I'm answering . . .

Hi Fit!
I've read about how great wheatgrass is for the body (starting tomorrow it will be part of my diet) and was wondering if you will ever do a post about it? Thanks in advance!

Having tried wheatgrass a few times and not being able to handle the taste, I applaud the strength of your palate. I must say though that the jury is still out regarding all the benefits this drink supposedly offers. Wheatgrass juice is extracted from quick growing red wheat sprouts, and it is 70 percent chlorophyll. It tastes, unsurprisingly like freshly cut grass, with hints of asparagus. A shot of the juice joint costs anywhere from $2 to $3 for an ounce.

The health claims made by wheatgrass juice companies range from preventing tooth decay and gray hair, detoxing the liver and blood, as well as aiding in the prevention and curing of cancer. However, none of these claims have been supported by scientific study. There is some evidence wheatgrass juice can help manage the painful symptoms of ulcerative colitis, inflammation of the lining of the colon and rectum.

To see what vitamins and minerals wheatgrass has to offer, read more.
According to Calorie-Count, two ounces of wheatgrass juice contains 70 percent of the recommended daily intake (RDI) of vitamin A and 20 percent the RDI of iron. It is also relatively high in calcium. Many food scientists believe that a shot of this green juice is no better than a serving of broccoli or spinach. Slamming a shot of wheatgrass is certainly a quicker way to get a serving of veggies. For the price and taste though, you might want to substitute turnips for your daily shot. All in all, drinking wheatgrass each day is not going to harm you and if any of those benefits turn out to be true you might never go gray.

If you are a fan of wheatgrass juice tell me about it in the comments section below.

I usually go to Robeks after my workout and get a small shake as well as a quick shot of wheatgrass. Its not as awful tasting as most people think...yeah...it does hint a bit of freshly mowed grass, but not terrible. You can even get a small cup of apple juice to chase it with if you just cant stand the flavor. I had heard that its considered equal to eating all your veggies for the day. Not sure why they cant seem to pinpoint its true health value...its just a quick drinkable veggie...IMO. Laughing out loud

I love wheat grass juice. I don't know about all those claims tho... I mean, prevents graying of hair??! That even sounds crazy. Maybe it's subliminal but I do feel healthier when I drink a good amount of wheat grass juice.

I tried this once and almost vomited. I like veggies so it's not a problem for me to get 3 servings a day.

It's good! Jamba Juice/Juice it Up give you a shot of orange juice of an orange wedge for after the wheatgrass. It's great.

I really like the taste of fresh wheat grass juice! I have some powdered stuff at home that tastes just like lawn, but when you go to jamba and get the fresh stuff it has a slightly sweet taste. I doubt it is a miracle juice, but when I get a smoothie I usually get a shot on the side for some extra veggies. Oh, and the orange slice makes it feel like I am doing tequila shots, hahaha.

So, for anyone who is curious I would suggest you try it. You may be surprised! I certainly was when I tasted it. Then again, I also can't get enough broccoli, so maybe I just have green-loving tastebuds.

Thanks Fit! Smiling I have the powdered wheatgrass and mix some in with orange juice; it gets rid of the strong flavor. So I'll see how it goes!

I LOVE wheatgrass and swear by it. You get so much energy from drinking it, not to mention the vitamin qualities.

The taste is NOT bad - if you can handle shots of alcohol, you can certainly stand wheatgrass. You don't even need to take it with a chaser.

Wheatgrass appears to be a good way to help alkalize your system--many of us are too acidic. It's also a good little burst of energy!

I go to Jamba Juice every Thursday and each time I think about ordering a shot to accompany my smoothie. Maybe I'll be brave and order it tomorrow!!

I like it and I'll grab a shot with a smoothie, I think it might count as a vegetable serving but not sure what else is so great about it. Just figure it doesn't hurt to add to my diet.

It reminds me of the girl from Crazy Sexy Cancer who drinks this numerous times a day. I applaud her...

It doesn't taste that nasty... I wouldn't mind drinking it every day if I could afford it, and perhaps with a bit more scientific proof.

i love the wheat-grass shots at the all natural juice shops. although they are ridiculously expensive.

i don't understand why people can't handle the taste? you can eat tuna and brocolli but can't take the shot that is usually 10gr the first 2 weeks, then 20gr? drink up some tasty juice afterwards! when it comes to something this little that will really benefit my health - i don't care about the taste, just suck it up, people.
