Every three minutes another American is diagnosed with breast cancer. This statistic has inspired millions to participate in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Perhaps it will inspire you too.

The 2 day, 39 mile walk raises money to allow
"medically under served women and men to be treated giving them access to the care they require. And hard-working research teams will be powered by the funds they need to fuel their quest for the cure."
Participants, walkers and crew members, must each raise $1800, and there is a comprehensive support system to help them reach their fund raising goals. If you are interesting in participating you will want to know that 76.8%, of all funds raised, is directed to mission programs and services, including grants, gifts and awards to beneficiary organizations
If you need motivation to exercise, signing up could be the answer since there are volunteer-led Training Walks in the areas surrounding Avon Walk event cities. I have heard it is a life transforming experience.

I'm doing this with some friends this summer in San Francisco. One of my friends sent me a 24-week training schedule, which is nuts! I've never had a fitness goal quite that long-term before.
1The walks are great! I've particpated in two Breast Cancer Three Days (which are 60 miles). The training is great, but don't sweat it C&P, you can do it even if you slip on training. You'll meet some pretty amazing people and have some great stories. Good Luck!
2This is such a worthy cause. Good luck, C&P! Proud of you and everyone else who makes this commitment.
3I definitely want to participate, but I don't have time right now! I really am amazed at how many people make the commitment to raise the money and show their support. My mother and I always purchase breast cancer items that donate money towards the foundation. Good luck to everyone doing this!!
4I would really like to do the three day (AND this one, but this isn't in my area at all). But I feel like I'm going to fatigue my family's wallets. Plus, my co-worker is a runner who's sister is a recent BC survivor, and she is my backup, so I'll give her the day off. (OH, I wanted to know if you could do only SOME days for that, too...anyone?)
I do the March Of Dime's Walk America (this is my second year). It's only a one afternoon (five miles in Mnpls), and really didn't require physical training. But it's still a great way to help/exercise/meet people.

I would say about anything like this, if you are thinking about doing it, just sign up. I hate asking people for money, so I ask them to sign themselves up to walk...a lot of people give $$ instead! And going home after the walk, you are filled with so much pride...
