It's not too late to get in shape for Summer and it's never too late to get in shape for life. Re-evaluate your Summer shape-up plan to make sure it incorporates the following basic must-have actions:
- Doing 30 minutes of Cardio five times per week.
- Doing two days of strength training per week.
- Eating at least five fruits and veggies per day.
- Recording and tracking your progress daily.
- Generally burning off more calories than you eat.

Ek! I am starting!!!!
1I just signed up to do the Self Challenge, it goes for 3 months so it'll be perfectly timed. I've been a long time reader but this is the first time doing the challenge, I've read so many good success stories about it I decided it was time to give it a try.
2i usually walk/run for 40 minutes... ... burns like 300 calories... or 400 maybe... how much more shoudl i work out to burn more calories than what i eat???
3It's so tough for me to get in the fruit & veggies (particularly veggies...eh)...I try to buy lots at the store, but if I don't eat it in two days, it's gone bad! But this year, I am GOING TO TRY to somehow get my daily intake!!! That is the one thing on the list I'm so bad about....
4Must get this going...
5I do all of this!
6This is basically what I've been doing for almost 2 months now. I've lost 10 lbs and inches around my body. It's like 80 deg today here so it already feels like summer! But my goals are for my Aug trip to visit my best friend in Hawaii. I want look and feel good and have the energy to do all the fun stuff we want to!
7Oh these are good! I just purchased a 3 month unlimited yoga package so I want to practice yoga 4-5 days a week too. It's good for the mind, body and soul.
8so question: strength training and cardio, how do you combine the two into one workout session? 30 mins of cardio and then a circuit of strength training? 5 mins of cardio for warm up and then circuit and THEN 30 mins of cardio?
help me, fit!
9I NEED to start amping up my strength routine. I have been starting my upper body "bare arms" workout so my arms and back will be tank top ready by spring. I can't wait to be able to wear cute clothes again!!
10when it says "generally consume fewer calories than you burn", does it mean consume fewer calories than you consciously burn off (i.e. exercising), or consume fewer calories than you burn throughout the day surviving AND exercising???
11I'm in Florida, so I always try to stay in good enough shape for the necessary skin-baring clothing in this climate. My current motivation is a trip to Florence at the end of May! I want to drop a few pounds before I go so that I can feel free to eat & drink without worry while there. Hopefully all the walking around the city will help me from gaining too much weight on the trip.
12My summer shape up plan is to LOSE ten pounds of body fat. You don't have to tell me to exercise! It's the food consumption that I struggle with- particularly mocha's from Starbucks. Anybody know how to break yourself of that habit?
13Try Starbuck's new Skinny Mocha Lattes. They're sugar-free and fat-free and full of calcium. The Ventii has 50% of you DRA and the caffine jolt is a plus. Also, aren't they always saying that milk helps you lose wieght? I can't see how you could go wrong. The only problem is that they're a bit exspensive. A cheaper way is to buy Splenda's new flavored mocha sugar packs and add that to your coffee at home.
14Ahhh. I need to get back in shape ASAP! Thanks for the tips!
15Summer shape-up implies that people aren't exercising and eating well year-round. Those "must-have actions" should not be seasonal. Why wait until mid-winter? It seems counter-intuitive for FitSugar to post about "summer shape up" plans.
