When I go to the gym, I have to have my gym bag. Aside from the obvious gym essentials like sneakers, my workout clothes, and a yoga mat, I always keep extra Larabars in there, a bottle of water, tissues, tampons (hey, you've got to be prepared), lip balm, and hand sanitizer gel. It also has extra pairs of undies, a towel, my iPod and earphones, and a plastic bag to put my sweaty gym clothes in so they don't stink everything else up. Wow, I didn't realize my little bag had all that in it!
So tell me, besides the basics, what else do you keep in your gym bag?

Hot Diamonds
Matches Fashion

I dont even bother with a gym bag. I get home from work, change into my workout clothes, grab a towel, ipod, bottle of water and my keys and im off!
I cant stand to change at the gym...it just takes too much time before and after...so i just go to the gym ready to go. Plus...im just one of those types who hate seeing all the weird older ladies that like to walk around the locker room naked. YUCK! why the heck do they do that?
1ummm work-out clothes, runners, papers form work, water bottle, snacks, and i think that's all...
2gym clothes and sneakers
MP3 player
basic makeup
tampons (yup - u never know)
water bottle
deo-soap-hand cream-moisturizer-facewash-towel
flip flops for the Y
really just the usual, nothing too special. I work out at lunch time at work so i keep the stuff here at night and just bring the clothes home when it needs a wash.
3towel, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, headphones, hairbrush, change of clothes, change of socks
4i put my ipod in my pocket and hold a bottle of water...and im good to go.
5gym gear, ipod, face wash, dry shampoo (amazing!), some makeup + fragrance, change of clothes...but this is only if I'm going to class/work right after...
6Small hairbrush, hand sanitizer, iPod, extra magazine for something to read on the elliptical...not much other than essentials, really.

water bottle
sweatshirt.
Novaraen - they're just bodies! I think it's awesome that older women with less than perfect bodies feel comfortable being naked in front of other women. You'll be old too someday!
For me:
Clothes and shoes
iPod
Nalgene bottle
Lip balm
Deodorant
Extra socks
Flip flops
Car keys!
I usually just shower at home.
11I have all the same things as everyone else, but I managed to cut my ankle at the gym a couple of weeks ago (klutz!). It was just superficial and it din't hurt but i wanted to get a bandaid before strength training to avoid getting blood on equipment etc. And no one in the locker room or at the desk had a bandaid!!! They had gauze in the first-aid, but no bandaids!
So, word to the wise, throw a band-aid in with those tampons, toiletries, etc. You don't need it until you need it!
Oh, and breathmints because I drink coffee on my way to the gym in the morning and I don't want to funkify someone's workout.
12My apt is inb/t my office and the gym so i usually stop home to change and then im off with just my water bottle, ipod and a towel. But when stopping home isn't an option, my gym bag only contains the essentials- shoes, socks, pants, sports bra, t-shirt, ipod, towel and water bottle.
I hate having anything more than necessary with me, I don't like baggage.
13Of course they are just bodies...i know that.
Its just that
instead of just being naked for a second while they change into their other clothes...they literally walk to the bathroom and back and then bend over near me all while in their birthday suit.
Sorry...but thats too much. Not everyone wants to see how proud you are of your body. lol.
Ok..back to gym bags.
14I'm with Novaraen, no gym bag for me. Just get ready and home and go. I bring a towel, iphone, and sometimes a magazine. Good to go. I don't like changing in front of other people, I'm too shy I guess so I'd rahter do it at home. And last time I was in there washing my hands, some lady was like doing stretches on the bench totally naked. So now I can't look at those benches without thinking about how much other lady business is on them. yikes.
15the only reason why i bring a bag to the gym is so i can carry my magazines & books more conveniently!
16gym membership
hair band
sneakers + work out clothes
HRM + polar watch
plastic bag
two locks (in case I forget or lose one)
Ipod nano and Nike+
neosporin
deodorant
towel
Oh and Novaraen, I completely agree with you. I HATE it when those women have to show off their bodies and walk around naked and bend over and all that stuff. Or check themselves out in the mirror while naked. Or put on make up without your clothes on. DO THAT AT HOME!
17I don't bother with one. I come home and change since it's so close...
18I keep my water bottle, my ipod and, of course, MY "G" TOWEL. For those who haven't heard about the "G" Towel, it's a hygiene gym towel to give you added protection at the gym. You can get one at www.ayleet.com
19I work out at home, but when I did go to the gym, my bag had:
20-shoes
-2 pairs of extra socks
-clean undies
-deodorant
-body spray
-Olay daily facials
-change of clothes
-a jump rope
-MP3 player
-extra magazines
-Purell
I have a large gym bag because I go to the gym right after work. I find it a hassle to bring a separate bag for my work things, so I aside from all my gym stuff - towel, clothes, socks, shoes, shower gel, deo, body spray - I have my gadgets, work notebook, and such in my gym bag.
21Besides the basics, my bag contains: my workout log, protein bars, a bottle of BCAAs, my intra-workout drink, my post-workout shake, shower kit/toiletries, a brush, extra hair bands, backup contacts and solution (I once lost one swimming and have had to drive home half-blind) and exercise bands (for traveling).
Speaking of locker rooms, I recommend reading "Locker Room Diaries" by by Leslie Goldman; it's essentially an ethnography about women's body image and the cult of the locker room.
22sweatpants, shirt, sweatband, socks, extra socks, extra undies, sneakers, maxi pads, mp3 player, small drawstring bag, coin purse (quarters for the lockers), body wash, mesh sponge, deodorant...
wow...I carry a lot of stuff in my bag...

And my gym clothes!!
Gym's far, and I go late afternoon, meaning I'm not straight from school/work/volunteering, so I go in my workout clothes. But extras are:
26iPhone & earbuds
2 face towels
sanitizer
extra shorts (you never know)
extra socks
dry shampoo (shower at home)
lock
H2O bottle
hairbrush
pocket money (just in case)
flip flops
plastic bag (for shoes & socks)
spray
pads/pantyliners
Oh! I totally forgot! Novaraen, YES! Sure it's a free country, but please, don't walk around in your full glory when other people are there. As proud as the older ladies are of their bodies, not all of us would love to see you bend over IN FRONT OF OUR FACES. Keep it all at home where (hopefully) it's pretty private.
27All these comments are super helpful being as I am constructing my own gym bag right now. Woot 24 hour fitness!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I carry A LOT of stuff in my gym bag but I'm always over-prepared. So here goes:
yoga pants, sports bra, t-shirt, zip-up, sneakers, 2 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of panties, ziploc baggy of hair clips, bobby pins and hair ties, hairbrush, large plastic water bottle, gatorade, a snack (usually an apple or protein bar), tampons/pads/liners, ipod, headphones, my sugar testing kit, NSAID pain relievers (such as Advil or Motrin - ibuprofen), gym card, car keys, cell phone, lip balm, 2 sets of my medications (just in case), lock, headbands, hand towel, bath towel, shorts, glucose tablets (in case I work out too hard and my sugar gets really low), first aid kit (neosporin, bandaids, tweezers, tape, etc.), tissues, hand sanitizer, shower kit (body wash, etc.), tanning lotion (I tan at my gym also), protective goggles, pedometer, pocket-sized disenfectant spray (I don't trust everyone disinfects the tanning beds after they use them), Victoria's Secret body spray, dry shampoo, change purse with a couple dollars and some quarters, ziploc baggies, an additional set of clothes, flip flops, a couple other things I can't really remember.
My goodness I carry a lot of junk in there.... sorry for how long that was!
