I love the treadmill because it trains me for running outside, but I equally love the elliptical because it's so less stressful on my joints (especially my knees). I've already quizzed you about the treadmill vs. the stationary bike, so let's see how these two compare.
1 of 3Question 1

Emilio Pucci
Boden
Hugo Boss
I know the treadmill burns more but I cant force myself to work nearly as hard on it. I can blast some fast music and kickass through my 45 elliptical routine of random hills but on the treadmill, I'm sore and bored after 5 mins.
1Thus, the elliptical burns more calories for me! I walk too much on the treadmill.
my elliptical doesn't have mph so I wasn't sure about that question. But I did know the treadmill burns more. I've just started running recently and have been running on the treadmill lately. But yesterday I ran outside and it was SO much nicer haha
2When I work on the elliptical for 30 minutes, according to the machine's calorie counter, I can easily burn 320 calories. When I run 3 miles on the treadmill, the machine says I only burn 275 calories but yet I feel like I'm working so much harder.
I just started running to vary my routine and have been bummed about not burning as many calories as my usual elliptical workout.
Last night I read an article that said you do burn more on elliptical, it just doesn't feel like you are working as hard becuase the elliptical is low impact.
So, I like the results of this quiz much better!
3klrouth, i don't know how accurate those machine "calories burned" counters are. i never rely on them to tell me what i've burned off during my workout.
i'm a treadmill girl myself, but i do agree that running on one can be supremely dull!!
4i know this goes against what an elliptical is for, but they bother my knees! something about not ever straightening my leg or something. i wish i could use them because there is usually one open when the treadmills are taken at my gym... does anyone else experience this? any suggestions?
5I enjoy using both, but the elliptical ranks #1 for me. I am easily bored on the treadmill.
6I'm an elliptical girl, all the way. We just ordered one, actually, and it's on its way to house! I'm so excited!
7I burn more than 320 calories on an elliptical in 30 minutes!
8I used both and failed the quiz. hmmm!
9Whoa didn't know that!
And sometimes the bike too
10I use both though
Wow my elliptical doesn't ask for my weight but I burn more calories than stated above, granted I'm not 135 but I don't do 10 min. miles either...my calorie counter must be off. I use it on resistance 2 (just getting started) and I burn approximately 300 calories in 30 min. At resistance 2 it's about 10 calories per minute.
11I will try the treadmill next time at the gym. But sometimes it make me dizzy when i get off.
12I prefer the elliptical, but I do like to do walk/hike/climb circuits on the treadmill.
13I might burn more on the treadwill, but I always end up working harder on the elliptical...
14I recently read that the elliptical is the most inaccurate one when it comes to the calorie burned reading. For some reason I feel like i'm not doing much work on it either...I never lost weight doing 1 hour intensive sessions on the elliptical, but once I started running on the treadmill (and outdoors) the weight just started to drop off! So hmmm...
15wow. I got them all wrong and I always pay attention to the calorie count on the machines. I guess the elliptical one over-estimates. I always get a good workout on the ellipitcal though. I play with the resistance and my speed to keep things interesting.
I loooove to run but I get knee pain sometimes, so I switch it up. I usually do a 30 minute treadmill run, then finish up with 30 mins on the elliptical.
16I love my elliptical and although I know I work harder on a treadmill, i can't bring myself to use it. Bad knees and bad ankles are my excuse, like most...
17I find that i use the elliptical a lot more.....whenever i use the treadmill, my hipjoints hurt for like two days!
18My back and knees hurt when I use the treadmill. So I run alot longer on the elliptical. Therefore, I burn more calories using the elliptical.
19I never feel like I'm getting half the workout on the elliptical that I get on the treadmill. Even if my heart rate is up and I'm going hard. Treadmill is my go to fatigue inducer
20I used both the elliptical and treadmill. The elliptical machine says I burn more calories than the treadmill, but the treadmill really works me out. I primarily use the elliptical because of bad knees.
21i use the elliptical most of the time for knee issues (i had surgery when i was 14), but i do love how absolutely exhausted i feel after a run on the treadmill.
22I prefer elliptical
23Elliptical - my knee problems prevent me from running anymore, so it's either that or the bike.
24Fit, do you happen to know anything about this machine called the Octane? My gym has a couple, and they're like souped-up ellipticals. I like them a lot, but I think the number of calories it says it burns *must* be wrong, because in half an hour I can be well over 400! Difficulty-wise, it feels somewhere in between a regular elliptical and running on a treadmill to me.
25I've always preferred the elliptical over the treadmill.
26When I work out, ideally I always get on the treadmill for 30 minutes then the elliptical for 30 minutes.
27i am really surprised at how many people prefer the elliptcal! to me it is torture and the treadmill is so easy.
28I just tried the elliptical for the first time the other day, and I'm switching to it. I think I burn more calories on it than on the treadmill, simply because I can't run for 30 minutes on the treadmill. I can't keep up my heart rate when I use it, since I tend to stop and walk when I get tired on it. When I used the elliptical, however, my heart rate was fine, and I felt like I worked harder than on the treadmill.
29When I use the elliptical I burn heaps of calories, or so it tells me. But when I did 1 hour sessions, I never seemed to lose weight. Interesting.
30Treadmills bother my knees majorly. I don't know what to do about it really.
I thought overall ellipticals lead to higher calories burned (assuming you have a fast/intense workout)...
31I enjoy the treadmill.
32cvandoorn, I'm really fascinated by your treadmill vs. elliptical weight loss experience!!
How fast were you running on the treadmill?
33on the elliptical?
trek desk is the funniest contraption i've seen in forever. i laughed so hard when i imagined it in use.
34I alternate between the two, I prefer the Eliptical, running tends to bother my neck and I get dizzy when I get off as well.
35wow shows how long its been since i've taken an exam- i was like why are questions #1 and #2 the same?
36I prefer ellipticals to treadmills. I have the same problem on the treadmill--I find it harder to stay at intense speeds. But I alternate between fast and slow speeds when I'm on either machine.
