So what's the deal with anti-viral tissues? They seem like a great idea - anything that kills those cold and flu-causing viruses has to be worth it, right?
The good thing: Kleenex anti-viral tissues, with the little blue dots, kill the viruses that cause most colds and the flu. Within 15 minutes, the tissues kill 99% of them.
The not so good thing: The tissue is made of 3 layers, which tend to come apart easily. The middle layer in the tissue contains citric acid, which can burn a sensitive nose.

These tissues are only meant for catching coughs or sneezes, or to wipe your nose - they don't work as a surface cleaner.
These tissues do not prevent colds or the flu. They are meant to kill off viruses that are in the tissue before they can spread.
They don't cost much more than regular tissues, and may provide a little comfort for people who are freaked out about germs. So overall, it's a pretty good idea. I want to know what you think - would you buy them?

I'm freaked out about germs, but this does not interest me. Regular tissues are fine. Plus, it's hard enough to get my kid to let me wipe his nose without the added "bonus" that the tissue might burn his poor little nose!!!
1I have them, and used them this past week. I had a really nasty cold! They were wonderful and very, very soft...no burning.
2I have these at work, and I think they are great. Much softer than normal tissue, and they are moist-ish too. Definitely not good as a surface cleaner, you'll see an oily smear.
3Anything that kills germs I'm all for. It'd be better if they instantly killed them tho instead of having to wait 15 minutes.
4I thought there wasn't any way of killing a virus, only bacteria? If citric acid is all it takes, why can't we take citric acid pills when we get the flu to cure it? I dunno, stinks to me. I'll stick with my Puffs Plus.
5i love these! i use them all the time, it makes me feel safe, plus its alot softer then regular tissue..
6You've got me convinced.
7I'm buying some asap.

My hubby purchased these once. They just seemed like normal tissues to me -- but it looked like they put little blue dots on them to make them appear different. (I believe that they may be beneficial; I just didn't notice any difference.)
They felt the same and worked the same as any other good-quality (read: not cheap) tissue. ((shrugs))
