We've all tried a crazy diet at one point or another. My most ridiculous diet moment was when I decided to do the Cabbage Soup Diet in prep for a pal's wedding. I lasted up until banana and skim milk day, day four, where I could only consume bananas, skim milk and cabbage soup during the day. This was the last straw. I know I'm not the only fool who went on a ridiculous diet in search of the magic bullet. So speak up and share the most ridiculous diet (self created, mainstream, or otherwise) you've ever tried in the comments section below.

Against all of my better judgement and knowledge I tried the "Master Cleanse" diet. I lasted 2 days, I got dizzy and grumpy and said f-it! I don't care what celeb tried it...it tastes like hot spicy lemonade and it's not tasty after the 15th glass!
1Mine was not eating breakfast!
2so pointless!
I never tried anything too crazy, I think if anything I starved myself more than anything else.
3the three day diet, where you eat saltine crackers, cottage cheese and then hot dogs fried for dinner.
i lost ten pounds but as a way to congratulate myself after completing the diet and loosing weight..my sister and i went out for french fries and frosties at
wendy's. hmm kinda defeats the purpose..oh well...i've also done the south beach diet, taken hydroxycut(with and without the ephedra),xenadrine, dexatrim, lean system 7,cla,and many more...i've
given these up and just eat six small meals a day and try to eat healthy...everyday is a struggle.
4yup, I did the Hog Dog/Heart Surgery diet. They say it's what they make heart patients eat three days before surgery to loose weight, but why would they need to loose weight before surgery? And why did I think that eating HOT DOGS for dinner would help me loose weight? It did, but I also had ZERO energy. Oy, the things we do!
5I have to confess that those soup commercials are getting to me. You know the onces where different women are wearing black dresses and running into each other and all "are you on the chicken and rice diet?..., no I'm on the Manhattan clam chowder diet." Anyhow, I'm adding more soups and salads to my diet, but I try to limit the canned soup intake the sodium in those things will seriously kill you. I cook up a big batch of soup once or twice a week and take it for lunch. I figure it's better than eating out and I can load lots of veggies and beans into the soup.
6cabbage soup! i was an au pair for this wealthy couple and the wife (who had just turned 50) made me do it with her! it was awful!
7I have tried Atkins (failed, day one), used Xenadrine w/ ephedrine (lost 50 pounds back, acted like a crackhead, gained it all back) and am now on Weight Watchers (lost 75 pounds, another 5 to go, this years primary goal is to get to Lifetime.)
8When I was working and going to school full time I kind of fell into a diet that consisted of eating nothing until about 2PM (after waking up at around 6AM!). My "meal" at 2 was a can of Mountain Dew and an individual bag of Cheez Its....yes, lots of nutrients there! Then in the evening around 7 I would eat an actual meal. I also went running 3-4 times a week to deal with the stress. How I managed to run after eating so little I do not understand. I lost a LOT of weight. But when I started eating normally again it all came back. So not worth it to be 15 pounds lighter than I am now!
9three days where you only drink shake made with papaya and pineapple (1 litre in the entire day), too crazy
10the craziest one i'd say was not havin dinner for like a month...didn't help at all...also, i hv tried south beach and somersizing...i lose lbs but once i stop i put it right bak on...the best thing tht works for me is controlin my portions and eatin healthy with a few indulgences now and then and working out - thts the only thing tht brings abt a permanent change
11No chocolate. Pfffffssssshhh, who was I kidding??!
12Never had to lose any weight, but once I went on Zantrex until it made me feel like my heart was going to pop out of my chest and I had a niacin flush all over my skin which felt like my skin was burning off. My boyfriend got mad that I was taking them and so I threw the rest away.
13i can't handle a day without dessert. weight watchers is the only thing that has ever worked for me.
14Cabbage soup diet and the Special K diet. That is the one where you eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast and lunch then a sensible dinner. I also did Dr. Natura's colon cleanse. You had to drink a special tea at night along with chowning down on several supplements a day. Blah!
15Isagenix cleanse. I did it for the cleanse following a car accident where my dear fiance did a crap job of helping me out. Instead of real food my back and other injuries could only handle opening a bag of chips. A diet of that kind of food for a couple of months and little physical activity left me feeling GROSS. So I lost 10 pounds and was CRANKY from the lack of calories in my day. The cleansing was good, the weight loss was weird because I knew it wasn't going to stay off. I felt like a deflated balloon.
16I did the 3 day "fruit flush" detox. I liked that it is a fixed time frame and made me feel self-disciplined. It really did kick-start some healthy weight loss as I started eating 5-6 small meals a day. It also made me get off of caffeine, which was excruitating!
17I did a diet with tomato and cucumber for breakfast and 1 apple for lunch and nothing else for the rest of the day! I did it for 10 days and lost SO much weight - but then it all came back! Oh well, now I just eat one main meal a day and snack on fruit and vegetables
18Ah yes, the old cabbage soup diet, I've tried that. And slim fast, and the susan summers one, and carbohydrate addicts (it did work the first time lost about 7# but didn't work other times)Atkins, I lasted about 1/2 a day, I've done South Beach, and the Sonoma diet, I've tried Fat Smash, and so many others. The latest off the wall one is "The Bite Diet" where you count your bites, it's kinda crazy but the portion control of it really works because you never feel deprived about "what" you're eating only "how much" which really isn't much. Another day, another diet. I'm just now trying to eat healthy food combined with counting calories & exercise, yeah counting calories stinks, but it does work!
19low carbing it. i lost weight, but it was all of my hard earned muscle from being a tennis player. now im a vegetarian and i eat lots of whole grains, veggies, and beans and im in much better shape then i was.
20Mine was the Sacred Heart Diet, which is basically like the Cabbage Soup Diet. I, too, lasted until the bananas and skim milk day... that night I had ice cream, and it was glorious!
21I tried two cups of the Three Ballerinas diet tea per day. I was stuck on the toilet for each passing day! And the Fat Smash where you consist of raw fruits and veggies for 9 days, and eat no carbs for a month! I made it through the nine days and lost weight, but it skewed my outlook on having a healthy lifestyle.
22**ACONSTANT440** Congratulations!
23Well, I used to be anorexic, so that was definitely the craziest. I'm a normal eater now though, so I haven't really tried any conventional crazy stuff.
24When I was 14 and a big fan of "Friends", I read in some magazine that Courteney Cox's diet consisted in not eating (at all!) on Sundays. Being a naive - and chubby - teenager, I believed that crap and tried that "diet"... Needless to say, I was always starving by 2 PM and ending up eating a lot of junk food! In the end, I gave in and resumed eating on Sundays. And now I don't believe what stupid magazines say about celebs' diet!!!
25I tried this diet called the "Ideal Diet" where I basically ate nothing but celery, canned tuna (plain, packed in water), eggs and melba toast for a week. I could only stand it for that long...I got so sick of melba toast and tuna that I didn't want to eat them again for a long time. I managed to lose about 6 lbs on the diet, all of which came back as soon as I ate real bread again. It definitely wasn't an "ideal" way to lose weight. I did manage to successfully lose 90 lbs PERMANENTLY doing the Weight Watchers program and I've kept it off for 6 years now.
26A few years ago, I went on the 'fruit and rice' diet...it only took me a few days to realize that my body could not function on a cup of rice and 3 servings of fruit a day.
27probably not eating more than 1000 calories a day and exercising like a fiend.
28I have done the Fast Track Detox twice, but it's not crazy. It's actually really sensible and effective!
29I have weird taste in food. I actually really enjoyed the cabbage soup diet, because the soup was tasty to me!
30Canned beets and green beans with a scoop of ice cream for dinner.
31Spectra- CONGRATS girly... that is so awesome!
I tried atkins for two weeks... it didnt work!!! I cant beleive I thought it would! I was very strict about it too... hmpf.
I actually make the cabbage soup b/c I like it! Not as a diet, but as a healthy soup for dinner.
I also did the egg whites for breakfast, crystal light for lunch, veggies for dinner thing. No energy.
Now I Jjust eat super healthy with the right fats and the right carbs and I feel great.
32Oh God ... the Ballerina Tea! Ha! That stuff is ONLY for emergencies! Otherwise you won't leave the bathroom. I also tried a fruit detox... which had the same effect as the Ballerina Tea. Only it happened at a soccer game, so I had to break down and buy a giant salty pretzel. But the craziest thing I ever did was chew nicotine gum. It really curbs your appetite, but also makes me feel super jumpy, like I could jump out of my skin!!
33well, i am (a recovering) anorexic and at one point, my diet would consist of coffee and maybe 1 apple throughout the day and then the least amount of dinner that i could get away with.
and it just about got me hospitalized
34dieting doesn't really work for me, i can eat 1200 cals a day, or 3000 and my weight will be the same
but i tried the chinese diet, don't know if you're aware of it in US, but it's pretty basic and my mom and sister lost 10pounds in one week on it but i couldn't stand it. it was only coffee in the morning (and i love love my breakfast, the most important thing for me to stay alive during the day), then egg and very lean boiled beef. other day cabbage and carrot salad. i wasn't a fan of veggies back then. now i could totally do the diet and feel fine, of course then i'd have to have my activia for breakfast.
my friend, who is obsest with her weight, she's 5'10'' and 127 lbs, but has great butt and breasts - she would eat only boild buckwheat (water, not milk).
35whahaha some comments are so funny. some said the craziest thing was not to eat dinner
well, that's nothing for me, i was raised not to make a big deal of a dinner, lunch was way more important, now i go without dinner, i usually have green tea with crisp-bread and
organic peanut-butter (as you have suggested that it's a great way of getting our nut dosage
).
36Neve, well, a lot of Eastern cultures practice this kind of 'diet' as a way to detox weekly. But you should starve yourself all day long, just have light yogurt for breakfast, some fruits and kefir.
i've done it, all my friends done it, my family does it. nobody was b*tching about it, cause it's extremely healthy.
it's called discharge day. and it helps you to cheat your body into as fitsugar has told us, that it's a good idea to eat different amounts of calories every two days or so.
37i meant to say shouldn't starve yourself, my flue is getting to me.
38I took Xenadrin WITH ephedra and nearly passed out on top of my cousin at the mall while shopping when I stood up. I NEVER took any weight loss pill again.
I was also anorexic for about 6 months. It was the people I was with. Not good.
39I did the master cleanse too. Except I modified it because I couldn't stand the enemas (ew) and I couldn't stand the herbal laxative tea. So basically, I was just drinking water and lemonade and cayenne pepper and maple syrup about 4 times a day. Which is way too little.
40Anyways, I lasted for 33 days. Lost a bunch of weight, gained it all back and being full almost made me a full-out bulimic. Yeah, long story short, PLEASE do yourself a favour and don't do anything drastic. It'll lead to way more problems.
yuck. i can't imagine doing a cleanse diet.
craziest 'diet' i ever did was probably my first year of college when i took tons of naps and slept through dining hall hours... actually had the freshman -15. but gained it all back the next two years and then some!
now i'm just eating healthy and exercising... i have lost 11 pounds so far this year, yay!
41p.s. my healthy eating does not include my delicious cookie in the picture. =(
42Ugh--cabbage soup diet was pretty bad. I lasted until banana day also. I always liked the soup though, it wasn't really that bad.
43I actually liked the cabbage soup diet. I love fruits and veggies and the soup was good! I lasted the whole time but my mistake was doing it right before I went on a cruise. I actually didnt eat as much as I would have during the cruise (since I was used to eating healthy beforehand) but it didn't really help that the food options were not so healthy on the ship... Trying the ballerina tea now. But only because I have some digestion problems and it helps.
44Oh, god. I've tried so many crazy diets I couldn't name them all. I think the craziest (and funniest) is that my sister and I decided to only eat popcorn and laxative tea. We could only eat the popcorn with a spoon so we ate it slowly . . . Needless to say, this lasted for like 1 day. I've also done Atkins, South Beach, Zone, Joshi Detox, Master Cleanse. I was also quasi-anorexic because for 2 years I wouldn't let myself eat anything more than 800 calories a day. I was too skinny.
The best way to lose weight quickly is to only eat green vegetables and white meat/fish. But the healthiest way is to have a balanced diet, not eat too much, and exercise. Easier said than done.
45Anorexia for sure was the stupidest & craziest diet EVER!
46I think I tried the ballerina tea once, but it was an accident. a horrible, horrible accident. Dear lord how can people willingly put themselves through that? The symptoms are sooo not worth it. . . .
And my craziest "diets" were all thought up spur of the moment during various finals weeks, more out of necessity than out of a desire to lose weight. One time during a day of cramming I actually went through an entire crate of those little California clementines. Something like one every twenty minutes, I just kept eating cus they were right there and I couldn't stop studying to go get other food. Don't know that I lost any weight but it did cure my cold (seriously, the next day it was gone). During another cramming session I ate only protein bars, during another one I only ate tortillas (not quesadillas - tortillas. I was out of cheese). Basically during finals week I would empty my kitchen of whatever was around. Couple that with stress and a lack of sleep and these "diets" are the unhealthiest I've ever tried.
47It is kind of funny for me to be reading these comments today because I have been really working out and trying to lose weight for the past month with really no difference. I am getting ready to do Weight Watchers online and still had some doubts. It is one thing to read the success stories on their website but it is so much better to read people posting here that have done it and really lost and kept it off. Thank you so much for helping me stay on track.
48I want throught a time where i would drink an entire gallon of water in a day. and i was so full of water i really didn't want to eat, that ,and i was in the bathroom most on the day. Needless to say it didn't last too long, like 2 or 3 days. I also once tried a diet where i ate a grepefruit before every meal. that way i wasn't really hungry. These where all spur of the moment hight school diets and i was really skinny to begin with, so i really don't know if i lost anything.
i was so young and stupid
