4/5 -got the fist size thing wrong thought it was 1 adult fist- but that's the portion-size of protein one is suppose to eat - no larger than the size of one's fist.
1Wow, I didn't do so hot.
2Fitsugar,
Just an FYI, the adult heart is the size of your fist. I'm in the medical field and was always told that. My husband's in medical school and was taught the same. Do a quick Google search, and you'll find the same answer!
Just didn't want people to be misinformed
3That's what I thought oatmeal_bliss.
4Hey all -
The sources I have for the adult heart size as being the size of two fists are:
Cleaveland Clinic
Nova
University of Virginia Health System
National Institute of Health
It looks like that average size of an adult human heart is is is somewhere between one and two fists.
I'm going to look for some sources in print too to see what I come up with, and will keep you posted.
5Fitsugar,
Well, I can tell you that I've held actual cadaver hearts in my hand and there is no way they are the size of two adult fists side-by-side... unless they have cardiomegaly. I would hope that the University of Illinois's medical school is teaching my husband proper anatomy, as he was told the same thing
6OOps... 2 outa 5.
7I looked up the percentage of water that makes up blood, and I found varying numbers from 83-90%, which is also what I learned in college. Unfair question.
8I also agree with Oatmeal_Bliss.
9Wow I stink!!! Need to learn more about the heart.
10Yeah, I'm pretty sure blood is more than 78% water unless you're really dehydrated. And I've also seen a heart from a cadaver and it's closer in size to one fist than two fists (unless you have an enlarged heart or really small hands). I'm curious...I wonder if the amount of times your heart beats per day depends on if you regularly work out or not. I know that my resting heart rate was a lot higher back before I started working out.
11ditto on the single fist!
