Dry skin can be a real bummer in the Winter, especially when it gets all itchy and flaky. The good news is that you don't have to live with it.

Here are a few tips for people with dry skin:
- Turn down the thermostat: Hot air is drier than cool air.
- Use a humidifier: It can help put moisture back in the air.
- Take warm, not hot, baths or showers: Hot water whisks away the fatty substances in the skin that help it retain water.
- Stay protected: Windy outdoor air is very drying, so bundle up.

ooh I didn't even think about the thermostat! I keep it fairly cool in the house, but now I might drop it even lower.
it is so hard not to take hot showers!--I love hot hot hot water!
1Ahhh where I live it is ALWAYS dry and it sucks!
2But, I have my ways of coping with it. Like putting on lotion after every shower and before bed. And making sure I am doing constent facials and hair masks!
I love my hot showers...I doubt I'll be taking "warm" showers anytime soon. I do use a lot of lotion after I get out of the shower though...it seems to help a lot.
3great advice. i use a humidifier b/c i get nosebleeds in the winter if I dont. i also find if i put my lotion on right away after my shower, it locks in some of the moisture.
also, is the picture of this ladies skin is kinda gross, or is it just me? it seems super damaged.
4protect your skin ladies, or else =)
Spectra I'm with you, I like it hot hot hot.
5What that woman in the picture needs is SUNBLOCK!! Her chest is extremely damaged with sun spots.... that should have been used as an SPF promotion.
6The other day the heater was on a bit too high through the night, and I woke up literally with dry crusty eyes. I had to pry my eyes open, and then my eyeballs were practically dried out too. What an ouchie!
7I have had eczema in the past and it gets horrible during the winter.....I used to take cold showers (lukewarm even damaged my skin)....and definitely put lotion right after I get out of the shower....also don't use lotion with any dyes or fragrance because it can irritate your skin....I like Eucerin, Aquaphor and St. Ives
8I just moved to the desert and it's so dry. My hair seems fuzzier, my eyes are super try too. I'll try some of these, I think a humidifier would be a good idea. But I need my hot showers
9Oh also bath oil while in the shower helps
thanks for the tips... I need a humidifier!
10I love the hot hot shower too--no way am I giving that up.
What helps me in the winter is using extra-rich body wash and moisturizer. Right now I'm obsessed with Dove Pro-Age body wash and body cream oil. I swear I could stand in a boiling shower for an hour, but as long as I use this stuff my skin will be just dandy.

12I used to have a terrible problem with dry skin on my legs, but I slough them with a sugar scrub every day and slather on the lotion and that seems to keep the dry skin at bay!
13Taking a flax or fish supplement (or eating things with essential fatty acids) is also a FANTASTIC way to hydrate and nourish your skin from the inside out. I know several people who have treated eczema by taking flax. I started putting fish oil on my dogs food when she started scratching all the time...her dry skin cleared up and her coat is soooo soft now!
14I use/do all of these and I still have dry skin...I find it helps to mix a few drops of Vaseline Body Oil Gel with my body lotion and apply right out of the shower. It definitely keeps my skin feeling softer and less itchy for longer.
15I have super sensitive skin, even the cetaphil irritates it when it's dry and flakey. Olive oil is the best thing in the world, right out of the shower. Also a tiny bit helps keep my hair frizz free.
