The Super Bowl seems to be a lot about snacking, and it's easy to eat mindlessly when there are munchables right in front of you. So if you're throwing a Super Bowl party or attending someone else's, forget the cheesy nachos, buttery popcorn, and creamy veggie dips. Make some homemade hummus instead. It is so simple to make yourself and fresh veggies go so well with hummus.

What you need:
1 can of garbanzo beans (strained and rinsed)
2 cloves of garlic, minced (you can always use more)
1 - 2 tbsp tahini (it's made out of ground up sesame seeds)
Juice from 1/3 of a lemon
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
What to do:
- Place all of the ingredients in a food processor for a few minutes, or until the mixture is creamy and smooth.
- Serve in a bowl with fresh veggies (carrots, red peppers and cucumbers are my fave), sliced pita bread, corn chips or whatever else you like to dip. You can also make these homemade pita chips and add those to your hummus platter.
Fit's Tips: This is a basic recipe, so play around with it. Add your own special ingredients like grated carrots or artichoke hearts.

Another thing you can do is make this with cannellini (white) beans and jarred roasted red peppers. Forego the tahini and lemon but keep everything the same. It's soooo good.
Or, use black beans, some salsa, fresh cilantro, tiny bit of evoo, and ground pepper and process in processor or blender.
Honestly the sky is the limit with homemade dips like this..tweak it to your own tastebuds and health needs. And so tasty.
I LOVE making my own dips with canned beans. So cheap, so healthy....perfection with fresh veggies or whole grain crackers.
1Love hummus. It's one of my tricks to eat more veggies, especially at parties.
superfoxmi your cannellini and red peppers variation sounds super delish. can't wait to try.
2Hmmm...
3I LOVE hummus! I add the artichoke hearts to mine sometimes....oh so good
4there are times that i've had success in making my own hummus and times that i've failed. i'm going to try this recipe since it looks a little different than what i usually do.
5Yum!!! Don't forget about Fit's recipe for "Not-so-devilish" eggs.
I'm hooked on 'em
and would not even think about making hummus without planning to nake a batch. These eggs are a great go-to snack...

6i make hummus all the time, it's just so yummy! i don't use that much olive oil, though, unless i use 2 cans of beans....i find it's a little healthier to add roasted red peppers and a splash of water. this moisture helps it blend up really smooth, and cuts out the extra calories

8For the Arabic recipe, use cumin and circle the outside of the hummus with olive oil.
9I make this almost everyday for myself. I love it. My recipe is very similar.
10i make my hummus with chick peas instead...
11If you want it a bit spicier, add chili oil instead of, or with, olive oil, and then sprinkle some cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes on top. And with this, since it's not a cooked dish, always use extra virgin olive oil - it's fruitier tasting... you'll want to use the best stuff you can, it can make a huge difference.
12Chick peas=garbanzo beans
I LOVE hummus, but I don't usually put that much tahini in it...I usually put in about 1/2 a tablespoon. I also add roasted red peppers...MMMM Or sometimes I put in sundried tomatoes (the dried up ones, not the oilpacked ones). You can do so much with it and it tastes SO yummy.
13I'm a HUGE fan of hummus...it's always on my weekly grocery list. I love the roasted red pepper flavor.
14Oh by the way...that hummus brand Athenos has a lot of varieties containing High Fructose Corn Syrup. Why the @#$%$ would they put that in there, it's totally irrelevant to hummus. So read the ingredients, I know the roasted garlic one doesn't have it.
15this recipe sounds FRIGHTENING since I don't cook, lol.
16My hubby is always getting this hummus from a Palestini guy down the street. No matter WHAT I can never make it as good as he does. =( I'll have to try this recipe. They always have the olive oil circle, but with a dollop of like a jazzy red pepper puree or something. It's incredible.
Minaminamina- our cure for anything bland is MORE CUMIN
17Here's a question: It says one can...how much is one can (250 g, 500 g)?
18I know my store has many different sizes....
